Man accused of sexual assault on Metro and on Boston subway
A Bethesda man has been accused by police of being involved in two sexual assault incidents — one aboard Boston’s subway and the other on a Metro train.
Timothy Day
(Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office)
Timothy Day was arraigned Monday in Suffolk Superior Court in Boston on a single count of indecent assault and battery for a 2004 incident on that city’s subway.
Boston area and Metro Transit police say he is also a suspect in an incident on May 16, 2002 on a Metro train.
In that case, a female reported to Metro Transit Police that she was approached by a man around 8:25 a.m. while boarding a train at the Pentagon station. According to the police report, she said the “subject ground his hips into her buttocks area.”
The man was identified only as John Doe and described as being between 30 and 40 years old, weighing 190 pounds and was reported as last seen wearing a blue coat.

VRE asks to reopen Broad Run station road for afternoon commuters
Virginia Railway Express officials are working with local police and state transportation officials in Prince William County to try to reopen a road near the railway’s Broad Run station that was closed due to flooding Tuesday.
Piper Lane, which is one of two roads in and out of the Broad Run station in Bristow, was closed due to high water early in the day, said VRE spokesman Mark Roeber.
Crews have inspected the road and hope local officials reopen it, now that flooding has receded and commuters are on the way back home.
“We’re hopeful the police will come out, look it over, and remove the ‘closed’ signs sooner rather than later,” Roeber said.
Many county residents had a hectic commute Tuesday due to serious accidents on I-95 and a dam threatening to flood. More rain is expected Tuesday night for the area, according to the National Weather Service.
Update 7:20 pm: Piper Lane has been reopened and train riders have been using the road for about an hour, Roeber said.

Metro riders: Are trains really your best option during weekend disruptions?
Over the Memorial Day weekend, Metro plans to close three stations on the Green Line, so workers can install a new switch recommended by the National Transportation Safety Board.

(Melina Mara - The Washington Post)
Service disruptions of this magnitude used to be rare. A couple of years ago, Metro would have scheduled a news conference a week ahead to detail the plan and to explain how riders could deal with such an unusual event.
Now, such events are routine. After this weekend, there will be 25 more during 2012 in which buses replace trains on some line segments. And those are just the disruptions considered major because they split lines. On most weekends, Metro also will set up work zones that require trains to share a single track to get around them.
It’s the new normal.

I-95 North snarled from Dale City to Beltway
8:50 A.M. Update:
I-95 North remains snarled in Northern Virginia. The accident in Dale City continues to block northbound lanes, with heavy congestion well before the accident. There are also heavy delays heading to the Beltway, so it’s very slow going if you are heading this way.
I-95 South is also slow approaching Dale City due to an earlier accident.
The accident on the inner loop of the Beltway at the Central Avenue exit is still blocking the right on-ramp.
Debris on eastbound U.S. 50 at Landover Road/MD 202 could cause delays there.
