NFLPA files collusion complaint in Redskins, Cowboys salary cap case
The NFL Players Association has filed a collusion complaint against the league, charging teams with improperly conspiring to restrict players’ salaries during the sport’s season without a salary cap in 2010.
The union announced the filing Wednesday, one day after an arbitrator dismissed a case in which the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys contested salary cap reductions imposed on them by the league — with the union’s assent — for the way the teams structured players’ contracts during the uncapped year.
The union’s complaint alleges that the league had a secret salary cap of $123 million per team during the uncapped year, according to the NFLPA’s announcement.

As the Washington Redskins kicked off OTAs on Monday, starting right defensive end Stephen Bowen worked on the side with trainers as he continued his rehabilitation from arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
But Bowen expects to be healed within a month and aims to build on a career year that saw him record 41 tackles and six sacks in his first season with the Redskins.

James Thrash, Troy Vincent, help develop the next generation of coaches
During their NFL careers, defensive back Troy Vincent and receiver James Thrash were valued by coaches and teammates for their play-making abilities and their roles as strong team leaders.

Pierre Garcon isn’t worried about who’s No. 1
The Washington Redskins gave Pierre Garcon a sizable free agent contract to bolster a group of wideouts that lacked a 1,000-yard receiver last season.
But Garcon sidestepped the issue this week when he was asked whether he feels pressure to produce like a No. 1 receiver.
“I’m just a person that’s trying to make plays for the team, trying to get on the field and just do my best every play, every time,” Garcon said following Monday’s organized team activities at Redskins Park. “Just help the team get the ball down the field and hopefully get some touchdowns and some wins on the way.”

Roger Goodell defends suspension of Jonathan Vilma, others in Saints’ bounty program
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the league’s suspensions of four players in the bounty case involving the New Orleans Saints and said Tuesday that he expects some of the evidence that led to the suspensions to be released to the public at some point.
“We’re going to do everything we can to provide the safest and healthiest environment for our players,” Goodell said at a news conference in Atlanta at the conclusion of a one-day owners’ meeting there. “And that is something we’re going to continue to do. I don’t expect that everyone is going to agree all the time, particularly when it involves discipline. That’s not the objective that I set out for. What I want to do is be fair and I want to make sure that we’re doing everything we can to provide that kind of safe atmosphere.”
Saints players and the NFL Players Association have contended they’ve been given no evidence by the league of a program in which players were paid for hits that injured opponents.
Asked Tuesday if he envisions evidence of bounties being released to the public eventually, Goodell said: “Yes, I do.”
